Open house
Katia Fuchey, a family mother, shared her home with refugees fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022 with incredible resilience and helpfulness. She took it for granted that she would share her home, her food and her time with several other people in addition to her family of five. After the war broke out, the first refugees arrived in March, 35 in the first week. By the end of October, a total of 231 people had arrived in the eight months since the family of French origin, who had settled in Hungary started accepting refugees. This proved to be too much of a burden on their lives. The mother felt she was dealing more with strangers than with her own family, so they stopped taking in refugees. She has no regrets at all about the past months and would do it again if the need arose, but the woman said they would ask for more help.
